Splitting a bill, taxi fare, or even tasks between friends or coworker’s is a normal, albeit sometimes frustrating, part of almost everyone’s daily lives. Cue Spliddit, an innovative cost splitting website developed by a team of professors and students at Carnegie Mellon University. Deeply rooted in decades of mathematics, economics, and computer science research, the algorithms developed by the Spliddit team provide fairness and equality to those using the app. Spliddit currently features five different cost splitting apps for various goods and services such as dividing rent, credit, goods, tasks, and taxi fares.
Our favorite, the popular Spliddit taxi fare app is based on the sixty year old work of a brilliant but little-known Nobel Laureate, Lloyd Shapley. Using an advanced algorithm to calculate a special number called the “Shapley value,” Spliddit fairly divides taxi fares when several people share one taxi ride to multiple destinations, calculating an optimal route and guaranteeing that all riders save money. In order to accurately estimate the taxi fares before dividing them, the Spliddit team has chosen to rely on TaxiFareFinder as a reliable source of taxi rates and calculations. In an interview with Spliddit team member, Ariel Procaccia, regarding the implementation of our API, Procaccia stated, “After looking into several options, we chose the Taxi Fare Finder API because it is easy to use, comprehensive, and has no strings attached. In subsequent interactions with the TaxiFareFinder team we were extremely impressed with their speedy and accurate responses to our technical questions, and flexibility in accommodating our needs. Based on several months of the smoothest possible collaboration, Taxi Fare Finder has my highest recommendation.” Our team here at TaxiFareFinder is simply happy we can help Spliddit to succeed and we hope the next time you save money on your fare using Spliddit, you will truly see the beauty in the implementation of their theoretical research!
